Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) contains a high level of moisture, it is hard to grind and very abrasive. 2 Natural pozzolans may not be as hard to grind as GBFS but may contain high moisture levels and be abrasive. 2 Both of these materials require grinding systems designed to deal with high moisture, hardness and abrasiveness.
The mill grinds the slag to around 4300 - 4500g/cm 3 (Blaine). To dry the slag while grinding, we need hot air, which is present in the mill at around 200°C. This is supplied by a burner from Loesche. The fuel is predominantly blast furnace gas, a byproduct from the blast furnaces that is high in carbon monoxide (CO).
Granulated blast furnace slag is primarily used in Europe for the production of Portland blast furnace cement. The necessary grinding of the slag to the finenesses required for cement is now mostly performed in vertical mills (Fig. 7), which achieve throughputs of over 100 t/h [2].
For the design of a slag grinding plant the special properties of granulated blast furnace slag have to be considered. Granulated blast furnace slag is moist, abrasive, fine grained and difficult to grind. It also needs to be ground very finely.
Grinding of cement clinker in vertical roller mills is a technology introduced by LOESCHE which was first used in 1935. Almost 30 years ago LOESCHE introduced the first vertical roller mill to grind both, cement clinker and granulated blast furnace slag, in one process. The concept of M- and S-rollers was established in 1992, which is one of ...
The new grinding facility is a state-of-the-art Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) import, grinding, and road dispatch facility that satisfies Australia's stringent energy, emissions, and site discharge regulations. The facility combines leading specialised equipment from around the world.
A method is disclosed for treating dore slag resulting from smelting of a dore furnace charge, by grinding such slag and then subjecting the obtained pulp to froth flotation in the presence of a suitable frother and collector to produce a precious metals concentrate which is then filtered and returned to the dore furnace with the next charge.
The grinding of clinker and cement and of granulated blast furnace slag and slag in vertical air-swept grinding mills dates back to Ernst Curt Loesche's invention. In 1927, he applied for a patent for the world's first spring-loaded air-swept mill – the beginning of the triumph that is LOESCHE vertical roller mills.
For more than 100 years, Loesche has been designing the world's most efficient and innovative grinding plants. In the last two decades, Loesche has speciali...
Blast furnace slag (BFS) was one of the most important by-products of the steel manufacture. According to incomplete statistics, about 220 million tons slag were generated in China per year (Ren et al., 2018; Duan et al., 2015, 2018; Cheng et al., 2021). The total stack capacity of the slag reached a billion tons.
Granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) is a by-product from iron and steel industry. It has been used as one of major replacement materials for Portland cement to produce concrete. It has considerable advantages in addition to the ecological and environmental benefits compared with ordinary Portland cement [ 1, 2 ].
